David, Solaris 2.8 (why they call it Version 8 and specify it as 2.8 I don't know) is in use for production at a lot of sites. I am sure there are bugs and problems with it the same as any other O/S but generally I think it is a safe bet to install Oracle on Solaris 2.8 . Just ensure you check Metalink for the correct/supported version of Oracle.
