The alter table exchange partition lets you transfer data from the partition of a partitioned table to a non partitioned table. It changes the adress in the data dictionnary, no data is moved, that's why it is fast.
For example, I'm using it in a system to exchange old data with new data. The new data is loaded in staging tables (non-partitioned). When the data is cleansed and validated, the staging tables are exchanged with the target tables (partitionned). The target tables are partitioned with only one partition to be able to used the alter table exchange partition statement.
