I find that the worst problems I have with SQL*Loader tend to be language related. The same goes with export/import. I wish there were better documentation on the NLS parameters.
and yes, it was characterset. What I didn't understand was why when I selected from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS it showed the proper settings yet I couldn't load.
