David Technically it shouldn't be a problem. You'll use different ORACLE_HOMEs of course. Have you considered the licensing issues? I agree with Stephen that you should stick to the vendor's recommendation, but press them to move their certification forward, for Pete's sake! Are they going to certify 8.1.7 before Oracle drops it?
