On Unix, you can back up the installation directory. If you need to go back to the old version, put the old directory back. You can use tape, tar, cpio, cp, etc. to do this.
Example 1 cd /path/here/product tar cvf /path/elsewhere/old817.tar 8.1.7 (assuming 8.1.7 is the directory to back up) If you want, you can compress the resulting tar file.
