I've had a little play around with this on 8.1.7.4.1, and I can't get the INSERT to run in parallel at all - all I get is a parallel select on the remote database.
Are there any other details you had to set up to make this work ? What does the full execution plan look like - run it through Oracle's utlxplp.sql or something similar to get all the details - autotrace won't be good enough.
