Regina - This is an issue we've just been struggling with. The first question is how your users are accessing the database? In our case it is an application server, Weblogic. Now most app. servers are capable of performing connection pooling, so if all the connections connect to the same Oracle userid, the connection pooling can perform most efficiently. In this case, the Java programs being served by the app. server will be performing the security. Now, if you are using other web tools that don't use connection pooling and may not have as much security themselves, then the answer may be different.
