In this statement, I'm trying to get (last working day - 6 days) from a specific table. If I remove the ORDER BY, I can never retrieve the correct rownum and of course the date.

Maybe I miss the point, but I don't really see the need for an order by here ? Can't you just dismiss it ?

Not absolutely certain of it but I think that allowing 'order by' in views (regular or in-line) is a feature which was introduced with 8.1.6. No easy workaround ...
