It is true that the firewire stuff IS linux only. It was written by Wim Coekaerts (who I used to work together with in Oracle Dev.), who also wrote (together with his group) the cluster file system for linux. I haven't personally tried it yet, but an old collegue(sp?) of mine has tried it. Speedwise it still has some more ground to cover, but for a demo/test setup it's excellent and cheap.
