Santosh, I see that someone else has pointed you to an Oracle Tech Net document. But the short of it is:
Snapshot or materialized view logs are placed on the source table only if you want to do fast refreshes. Their purpose is to remember which rows in the source table have changed. Snapshots or materialized views are on the remote database and are copies of the source tables.
