hi

thanks for the info.i could make it work for some 9i
sqls but a particular sql is not generating trace.
the 10053 trace file has only the query para but no
other details. the query selects from a simple view
built on a table. will this make a difference?
here is the query
select id from sai.ext_view
where (sai.ext_view.ind=0)
order by id;

where sai is the schema name,ext_view is a view built
on a table and ind is a column in the table

to force it to parse everytime(test1 to testn..is this
a good approach?), i used hints like this below
select /*test1 */ id from sai.ext_view
where (sai.ext_view.ind=0)
order by id;

and finally when i see the 8i trace, there is a line
which says "bitmap access path rejected" under access
path:index(index only).

what does this mean?

btw,the platform is aix 5l and oracle version is
9.2.0.3

thanks again for taking some time to look into this
sai
