Looks like you have a 32-bit version of oracle. 4GB is a typical number to hit.

problem went away after loaded 9.2.0.3. again there was no problem w/ 8.1.7.0 either. so i think there's a bug in 8.1.7.4.

same statement got processed when LVs were recreated w/o stripe. didn't change size settings.
