You can use whatever device sou have instead of "dua3". My last
VMS experience was in 1995, with OpenVMS 5.5-2, on a VAX 4400, so
it might be just a little bit rusty. Allegedly, there is a wonderful
new OS, created by David Cutler, the creator of VMS 5, that is easier to
master. Given the financial might of the company which is selling it,
I wouldn't quite dismiss the claim that the whole world will be running it
very soon.

The background dump desitnation from v$parameter is ORA_DUMP. The system logical ORA_DUMP equates to disk$dbtest11:[db_amdev.trace]. Sparky wants to append the trace name file to the end of this. I've tried both ORA_DUMP: and disk$dbtest11:[db_amdev.trace] in the aut file. They don't work.

I get the error message "trace file server daemon has denied your request. Check the trcfiled logfile on 'DRAX11' (ip) at port 2297 for details.
I'd be most grateful for any ideas.
