Jerome - I wouldn't do it. In a recovery situation I want everything to be as simple as possible. When RMAN wants a file, I want to be able to give it exactly the file it wants and not have to worry about whether I should give it the file from yesterday or the day before.

So if you use xxx.dmp on Monday,move this file to tape then reuse the same filename for the Tuesday dump. I think as long as the file is not on disk then RMAN accepts the filename.
