Forget about it. The ASCII transfer must be doing something like adding a line feed after each carriage return (Unix to DOS). However, in binary data such as the Oracle dmp, nothing says that the byte value 13 should never follow byte value 12 - and the 'back ASCII ftp' just removed every 13 after every 12, thus corrupting some data.
