Pete: Sorry for the delay. I was traveling back to Bangalore from San Francisco when you sent the message. There is a procedure in the DBMS_SYSTEM package called KCFRMS which resets certain timing information from the X$KCFIO (which is exposed as V$FILESTAT).
And also there is an event which can be used to flush the buffer cache and that will reset the part of the X$BH stats (very similar to ALTER SYSTEM FLUSH BUFFER CACHE in 10g and above!!).
