We had some 9i PL/SQL problem when sql invloves "UNION" and one sql selects
varchar2 column with string concat and another selects char(1) column. Run
the same 9i query in straight sql does not have problem. 8i does not give
any problem (in both sql and pl/sql).

Hi,

Some people here are telling me that using char(1) is better than
varchar2(1) for a field code.
I do not see why.

I never used char as it may cause problems when doing some comparisons.

Any reasons ?
