just a suggestion, what I practice... Always, code and comment. by comment, I mean never delete a piece of code from the your code file. if you need to modify it, have it commented. paste the piece afresh and do the modification. Also, use date and names of the developer whenever modifying any code.
Again, it is always better to backup your code whenever you are modifying it.
