Job Title:  *Sybase Database Developer*



*Job responsibilities:*
Provides CRM applications for the whole firm - cross-divisionally.
Code Development, Analysis and translation of requirements. If located in
North America, share daytime support duties with other team members
(typically one week every 4-5 weeks). Overnight (NY-time) support is
typically handled by a dedicated resource in India.



Strong Sybase skills required.
Strong Transact-SQL required with deep experience working on data-related
issues -- ability to read complex SQL and write complex stored procedures as
necessary to meet business requirements. Knowledge of performance tuning,
include query optimization, caching strategies, minimizing blocking, etc..

Familiarity with working a replicated database environment and with triggers
is helpful.
Client-side skills:
Unix skills required: moderate ksh scripting (primarily to load files,
create process monitors, interface with Sybase). Familiarity with operating
in UNIX/Linux environment.
Perl knowledge (using Sybase libraries) is very helpful, or willingness and
ability to learn Perl essentials fairly quickly.

Business/Analytical skills:
Ability to take a written or verbal requirement (depending on complexity)
and (given familiarity with the database over time) translate it into a
technical solution.
Ability and desire to handle business logic complexity and
understand/consider nuances and issues which might not be apparent on the
surface - to dig into the data or possible contradictions or unseen use
cases.
