He is looking for developers that are more a computer scientist in nature and not just a 'recipe cook' in the way that they address the work, i.e. thinking outside the box, troubleshooting, improving processes through efficiency. *Soft Skills:* Prepared to work on all aspects of applications vs. being experts on only a piece of the process; OK to specialize on certain applications, but must have a holistic approach, step outside comfort zone, and be prepared to scrap hard word and start over as strategy shifts; big ego’s are not welcome. - Travis knows that these mid-senior level folks are harder to find - don't need to be an architect - will not interact with the biz side - know more than bits and bytes! - not as strong on the design side - Ability to be a multi-tasker from design to whatever needs to be done What the consultants are working on is building tools that let Comcast Care Agents (customer service for inbound customer calls) and Engineers troubleshoot problems with the X-1. Cloud based storage (as opposed to a physical DVR box) and Comcast services. The customer calls that reach these Comcast Internal staff are Service Level 2 and above (as opposed top level 1 general info calls). *Job Description:* Java developer with 3-5 years’ experience designing and implementing distributed systems in a UNIX/Linux environment. Development expertise should be in data collection and analysis back office tiers with web service interfaces for end users and other automated systems. Familiarity with core class libraries and some common open-source application frameworks is important. The right candidate is capable of interpreting technical architecture and design documents and working effectively with development leads to create tools useful to the target audience. Excellent oral and written communications skills required. Comcast Converged Products is deploying an end-to-end IP video infrastructure supporting a wide suite of next-generation, interactive media products. The X1 Platform Operations organization needs to bring together business logic and data served up by the many components used in these solutions in interfaces for system configuration, real-time analysis, and problem recovery. The source components are being aggressively changed as market requirements dictate and cutting edge technologies are regularly being incorporated into the system.
