The primary goals for the position will include Linux-based application server administration with focus on security, automation, optimization, and standardization of new and deployed systems. The Linux System Administrator will be involved in infrastructure planning with regards to scalability, redundancy, and data preservation of backend systems. Required Skills: Overall installation, support, and administration of Linux Be proficient in working with and maintaining a Red Hat Linux environment In depth performance tuning of database, application servers and web servers running the Linux operating system. Provide focus on security, automation, optimization, and standardization of new and deployed systems. Determine infrastructure planning with regards to scalability, redundancy, and data preservation of backend systems. Troubleshooting application servers, web servers and infrastructure related issues on a 24x7 basis. Implementation of new projects, working with the application and infrastructure and build out teams in the rollout of the Application server platforms. Working with Production support teams on application deployments and upgrade issues. Support for Apache on Red Hat Linux on a consulting basis. Complete understanding of the TCP/IP suite Full understanding of UNIX file systems, boot processes and UNIX security Kernel compilation and upgrades Clustered server network topology concepts The position will significantly contribute to the following services and projects: Assist in defining the technical strategy and framework for multiple application oriented projects. Assist in the implementation of applications using application server based platform. Development of technology expertise for the Linux Services Platform and to act as a catalyst for technical knowledge sharing across application teams and system administration teams. Identify and communicate best practices, technical standards and the supporting tools and services for the Linux operational platform. Responsible for the successful deployment of large and small scale projects onto the application platforms, as well as Apache web server platform. Perform trouble shooting and performance tuning for Linux servers. Interact with other technical staff, project managers and technical units in devising solutions and strategies that best suit business requirements and maximize technology investments. Required Experience: A bachelors degree in Computer Science, or a related field 3 years minimum full-time Linux system administration including; installation, configuration, domain deployment/management strategy formulation, performance tuning, configuration management, software upgrade planning, and troubleshooting in a large heterogeneous environment. Must be able to support the entire O/S (Linux based). Veritas - VxVM (volume manager), VxFS (File System), VCS (Cluster) and Netbackup EMC - Clariion arrays. Experience with perl and shell scripting, kernel tuning, system and network security; file servers (Samba, NFS), and clusters. Need to be able to create scripts (shell scripts and deployment scripts). Extensive experience working with J2EE developers. Ability to do initial crash dump analysis and OS level restoration services. Strong team player, communicator, relationship builder, and motivator. Ability to develop technical documentation that is clear and concise. 3 years experience with UNIX a must. Knowledge of Oracle Databases a plus.
