Enterprise Java Architect w/ Hands-On SOA
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Duration: 6+ Months
Primary Skills:
J2EE, Web Services, IBM MQ Series, SOA, ESB, BPEL, XML
Provide leadership and mentor USS employees in implementation of a sound
architectural review process within development of new Services Oriented
architecture. Must oversee the technical designs of applications ensuring
compliance with existing standards while converting to an SOA approach.
Use extensive knowledge and practical experience with corporate implementations
of Services Oriented Architecture to help team identify strategies and
practical procedures for guiding the transformation of current architecture to
SOA.
Assist in developing a process to perform architectural reviews. The EA will
have important responsibilities in each of three areas.

Architecture and Design: Lead the overall efforts to implement a sound
architectural review process using SOA. Pursuant to this are many supportive
responsibilities, including, but not limited to:
Providing RFP responses in collaboration with client teams,
Review and integration of technical architecture requirements, making certain
all business requirements are met and architecture conforms to client's long
term technical direction
Supervise all documentation efforts and define application programming
guidelines and standards,
Review and Validation: Perform architectural assessments- and collaborate with
other architects- to ensure compliance with enterprise architectural standards
in the areas of technology selection, middleware, protocols and design
patterns. As part of this responsibility, the EA must effectively communicate
to all stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the project results of these
assessments.
Diagnosis and Remediation: Troubleshoot, debug and solve technology integration
and performance issues as well as suggest architectural improvements to promote
the enterprise architectural vision.
Years of Work Experience:
Must have significant demonstrable experience in successfully guiding a
corporate implementation of Services Oriented Architecture in the area of Web
Services implementation. Evidence must be produced of "hands on" experience
with J2EE, Web Services, IBM MQ Series, SOA, ESB, BPEL, XML and portal
development using IBM WebSphere Portal.
Experience should include:
Minimum of 10 to 15 years of overall IT experience.
Minimum of 4 years experience leading and managing teams.
Minimum of 3 years working in the areas of system architecture, component
design, Software implementation, and deployment processes.
Minimum of 5 years in the core area of expertise, i.e. J2EE, Web Services, SOA
and IBM WebSphere Suite (App Server, Portals, Integration, etc.)
Personal Skills Required:
Excellent communication and leadership ability;
Ability to teach, mentor and effectively guide team toward a consistent
philosophy - Ability to chair meetings, negotiate solutions, make decisions
effectively
Ability to meet targeted deadlines with minimal supervision.
Technical Skills Required:
J2EE, Java 2, Servlets, JAXB, JAXP, JDBC, JMS, JSP, XML, XSLT and AJAX*
SOA, UDDI, BPEL, ESB Concepts, WS-Security, Web Services Standards (SOAP,
JAX-RPC, WSDL, WS-I*)
Spring, Hibernate, JDO, Jakarta Commons. J Unit
IBM WebSphere, Rational Application Developer, Eclipse, Oracle
UML, RUP, Rational Requisite Pro, Rational Rose and Eclipse
ClearCase, Clear Quest.
OOA, OOD, Java Design Patterns and SOA Frameworks
Additional Skills/Qualities not required but would be a plus:
Evidence of prior leadership position in implementation of a corporate level
and successful SOA architecture.
Implementation of automated deployment of an application
Ability to perform analysis and design for software using industry standard
modeling tools.
Proficient in the use of software development tools and techniques in software
projects (including use of integrated development environments, profilers,
debuggers and performance monitoring tools related to the architects' core area
of expertise).
Present information and communicate effectively with clients, team members and
management.
Knowledge of cross-platform design and development experience
