This role will require a person who needs minimal guidance, is able to manage a multi-disciplinary development team consisting of permanent & outsourced resources, can work closely with the Business Analyst team and will participate in hands-on development tasks as needed. To achieve this, the individual must be capable of overcoming a steep learning curve and possess the necessary leadership skills to negotiate with and influence key senior stakeholders. Specific responsibilities will include: . Assist with design/development of application enhancments . Assist with project planning and resource levelling activities and conduct task definition, estimation and assignment for a team of developers . Monitor and direct team members' activities to ensure delivery of project deliverables on time and to budget. Provide status reports to the IT and business project management . Work with enterprise architects to ensure that the correct architectural discipline is applied to application design and enhancement decisions . Develop and use best practices for management of application development activities across the entire lifecycle including requirements management, change management and release management . Implement and enforce documentation processes and templates according to appropriate standards. . Serve as mentor and technical resource for ongoing enhancement and new development projects and support development needs of a team of developers . Assist with development efforts when necessary . Coordinate and communicate with key internal technology teams (i.e. database services, network services, hardware support, etc.) . Identify issues, risks, dependencies and assumptions to ensure accurate planning . Develop subject matter expertise (SME) on the applications and surrounding business processes . Apply industry best practices to deliverables and approach . Monitor and direct team members' activities to ensure delivery of project deliverables on time and to budget. Provide status reports to the IT and business project management . Work with enterprise architects to ensure that the correct architectural discipline is applied to application design and enhancement decisions . Leading global interdisciplinary teams including permanent and outsource/offshore staff. Requirements . 7+ years overall IT development and/or software implementation experience . Experience with n-tier application design and development - Specifically J2EE (Java / JSP / Servlets / JDBC) on Websphere, with Oracle and Sybase backend (stored procedures / triggers) a plus . Strong experience with architecting solutions in an n-tier environment (5+ years) . Deep understanding of architectural principles and application design best practices . Experience with development and leading teams in WebSphere, UNIX/Linux, Java, Sybase and Oracle environments . Strong experience in leading teams of 5 - 7 people . Excellent communication / interpersonal skills and strong analytical / problem solving skills . Proficiency with all Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project). . Extensive experience in using and implementing structured systems development processes within application development teams (7+ years) . Applied knowledge of the SDLC and software development methodologies. Additional Requirements . Experience developing ASP/VBScript applications a plus . Experience with batch scheduling processes and tools a plus . Experience with data ETL processes and development tools a plus .
