I need a high level Oracle DBA, not at the architect level, but near that level. This person will be supporting Oracle 10 and 11g. Experience with Informix and DB2 would be a nice plus. This is for our client Nash Finch in Minneapolis, MN.
Duration is 4+ months to start. It is very likely to go longer but there are 4 months left on this budget cycle and will be reviewed and renewed after that. Local to MN would be nice but they will hire over the phone as well for out of state candidates. They could interview late this week or early next week if we have good candidates. The generic description is below but the main needs are: High level Oracle 10and 11g DBA, approaching architect type skills. Experience with Informix and DB2 would be a plus, since they are in the environment as well. This is a specialist level for them - one step below an Architect. They support both Oracle 10g and 11g Database Specialist AIX Operating System, DB2, Oracle, Informix and SQL Databases, FTP – Secure File transfer, NIM – Remote Software Management, VIO – Virtual I/O Server, Metro Mirror / Global Mirror, HADB2 and Oracle DataGuard – Disaster Recovery, TSM – Storage Management, LPAR's – Server Partitioning, SAN – Storage Area Network, Nagios – System monitoring, Korn Scripting, NMOM – Performance monitoring, SOX Auditing, CRON – Automated Scheduling I. Basic Function - Designs, develops, implements and maintains complex databases, systems and relate hardware and software applications in support of business processing requirements. Leads or oversees system administration projects and studies and makes recommendations for improvement, upgrade or change to systems, databases and/or applications. Responds to most complex hardware and software problems utilizing a variety of software tools and techniques. . II. Essential Duties - Evaluates very complex systems needs of staff and operating departments: Interviews users to determine information needs and sources of required data. - Designs, develops, implements and maintains complex databases, systems and related hardware and software applications in support of business processing requirements. Regularly evaluates, implements and manages appropriate hardware and software solutions ensuring continuous data integrity. Directs the monitoring and tuning of assigned systems and databases to achieve optimum performance levels and ensures infrastructures continue to meet company needs. - Monitors the very complex coding, reviewing, preparing test data, testing and debugging and implementing of system building. - Displays a high level of critical thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-functional problems. - Contributes to professional environment by investigating discipline ‘best practices’ and adheres to administration standards. Mentors lower level system engineers and other IT staff on above duties. Remains current with new technologies and systems engineer methodologies and protocols. - Responds to most complex network, hardware and software problems utilizing a variety of software tools and techniques. Ensures proper management notification during computer system outages. - Leads or oversees system projects and studies and makes recommendations for improvement, upgrades or changes to systems, databases and/or applications. Provides technical direction and leadership to various teams on request. Develops and provides management with long-term systems operations, configuration and administration requirements. Leads or participates on teams on the revision of standards, policies and configuration guidelines. - May develop and oversee the implementation schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Designs, tests and implements disaster recovery procedures. III. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and/ or experience - 7+ years Information Technology experience in the assigned specialty area - Requires extensive knowledge of computer hardware architecture and operating systems in a multi-system environment. Good analytical, problem solving, decision-making, attention to detail, customer service, interpersonal and communication skills needed. MCSE or other accreditation required. - Develops team members through mentoring and coaching in complex subjects. - Successfully serves as point of authority and/or source of technical/scientific knowledge for the specialized software IV.
