*Job Description::*
*PRIMARY PURPOSE:*
-Responsible for the design, implementation, security, availability,
performance, maintenance and operational support of Oracle databases to
support the University’s applications.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:*
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other
duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned
below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
1. Serve as subject matter expert in Oracle and Sql Server database
administration working on problems of diverse scope and complexity.
2. Works with business partners to plan, design, create, and maintain
databases to support the University’s enterprise applications.
3. Determines methods and procedures for database administration.
4. Installs, configures, and maintains database software components.
5. Implements and maintains database security through established security
procedures.
6. Responsible for database recoverability, availability, and optimal
performance.
7. Accountable for maintaining the security and confidentiality of any
proprietary or sensitive information or data in any medium regarding the
university or its students, faculty, or staff. Accessing or disclosing such
information or data must be deemed necessary for the performance of one’s
job responsibilities and must be authorized by the employee’s supervisor.
8. Availability to work after hours and/or weekends and on-call, as
specified by supervisor.
*REQUIRED SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:*
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill

1. Bachelor’s degree with 5-8 years of related experience, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
2. Expert knowledge of Oracle database administration skills and with
Oracle tools.
3. Proficient with Linux, Unix and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
4. Uses professional knowledge, experience and analytical criteria to make
decisions.
5. Ability to work independently to determine methods and procedures on new
assignments. Receives no instruction on routine work, general instructions
on new assignments.
6. Knowledge of superior customer service standards and practices.
*DESIRED SKILLS or COMPETENCIES:*
List any desired skills or competencies needed to perform the essential
responsibilities of the job. Please use numbers to separate each distinct
desired skill or competency.
1. Oracle DBA certification preferred.
2. Sql Server DBA certification preferred.
3. Familiarity with Higher Education administrative business processes
strongly preferred.
4. Ellucian/Sungard Higher Education Banner experience preferred.
