I mean, Hello! Jim!

Yeah, you can use c-x c-f in shell buffer to open a file.

I can recommend you to use dired to open a directory. Do this:

press F10
then press return,
then press down-arrow followed by return.
then type the path you want to start browsing from, then return.
then you can open a dirrectory or open a file by pressing return
while cursor is on it.
