Subject: [Oralux] link and instructions for installing oralux to hd?

Ok, I don't have a copy of any letter as I don't keep copies of sent messages. However, the process for installing Oralux to HD is incredibly simple.

first, you need to start the Oralux cd.

Second, if you can get on line, you need to get a copy of the
installation software from the Oralux site. Sorry, but I think this
might be included in the next release. The exact url for the
installation software is:

http://oralux.org/oralux-installer-0.2-5.tar.gz

Once you have this, you need to do the following.

Third, you need to copy the Oralux installer to the /ramdisk directory
which is created by the Oralux when started from the disk.

Fourth, you need to unpack the archive of the Oralux installation
software.

Step 5, and you need to be root to do this, go into
/ramdisk/oralux-installer. This is the directory resulting from the
unpack of the archive. Now you are ready to actually start the
process.

Step 6: and you need to really be careful here. enter this:
oralux-installer.sh

This is a shell script that sets the entire thing in motion. You need
to be really careful not to destroy your files when you do this. The
best policy I can give you is to retrieve the installer with whatever
software you are presently using and back up your files, either onto a
separate hard drive or partition somewhere or burn them onto a cd.

In the final step of the process, just be careful to listen to the
prompts and follow them correctly so that you don't destroy your
files, especially if you have no backup solution. When finished, you
can do an apt-get upgrade over the internet and bring all the packages
up to date. After this, you can add and/or remove any you choose.

If you want your machine to be an Oralux machine exclusively, as mine
is, you need to format the hard drive partitions, only if you wish to
do so with fdisk. This is not necessary if you already have the
partition setup on the drive as you like it. On new installs, I use
fdisk for this work.

If you want Oralux to be the system that is the only one on the
machine, just be sure to answer yes when the installer asks you if you
want the boot loader in the master boot record. This will ensure that
you boot properly.

Hope this helps.
