I do use such a method:
I created many .fetchmailrc-mmm .fetchmailrc-nnn in /root
Then I created a fm script I dropped into /usr/local/bin (for example)
and when running fm I can choose 1 2 3 4 5 ... depending on the account
I'd like to fetch.

I do this under my own account, no need of creating as many local
accounts as POP accounts.

There is a template set of fetchmenu + ponmenu (in case you were using
ppp instead of adsl) at this url:

Osvaldo.
