Hi, according to the documentation orulux will install dectalk 4.61 or
5.0 you can also use it with speakup on what ever distro you have. Let
me know if you have luck with setting up speechd-up I tink some of the
directions are missing from the users guide. Thanks.

I finally got to try Oralux, however, as I am used to eliquence or
dec-talk,
none of the other speech options were comfortable for me. I will be
thrilled
to try YASR! With running from a CD, can I make changes, run tcsh
instead of
bash? Would I be better off installing to a hard-drive? Now, here's a
reply
from 2 folks at Fonix about dec-talk. If I buy this runtime version,
can I
install in Oralux? Thanks in advance

Hart;

I apoligize, I think I forgot to respond to you last week given the
short week (Good Friday).

The answer to your basic question is: Yes there is a Run Time version of
DEctalk on Linux available.

if you go to our website at fonix.com, look under DECtalk. You will see
RT linux. This is a runtime version that will work on any Linux based
App that has written a driver for it such as EMACspeak.

for single digits you go to single letter spelling mode
[mode spell on]

and that should give you single digits.

John

Well, first of all, I understand from some dectalk as well as linux
lists for the blind, that there are software versions of dectalk? From
what I first heard, version 4.63 is best with more voices? However,
when I phoned Fonix last Friday, I was told that there were no stand
alone linux versions? I understand it is $50? Next thing, is their a
command for the old decpc to switch numbering to single digits? I
cannot find anything in the manual? Thanks so much in advance Hart Larry
