OK, I think they're actually called virtual terminals. If you hit
meta-right arrow (or left), it'll put you in a blank shell terminal thing.
I use screen, but it seems to be rather temperamental; for some reason
text doesn't always get taken off or written to the screen. Yasr, oddly,
reads the proper text, but my monitor and Braille display give me
erroneous results. It's not *too* bad in Pine, but there are some
programs I use where it really makes a big difference to have accurate
material on the monitor and Braille display.
And now for something completely different. `-) Does anyone know
if there's a way to convert text files to MP3s? Maybe using a
text-to-speech engine, but directing the output to a file rather than the
sound card? There used to be a program like that for Windows, but I
haven't seen one in Linux.
