OK, I think they're actually called virtual terminals. If you hit meta-right arrow (or left), it'll put you in a blank shell terminal thing. I use screen, but it seems to be rather temperamental; for some reason text doesn't always get taken off or written to the screen. Yasr, oddly, reads the proper text, but my monitor and Braille display give me erroneous results. It's not *too* bad in Pine, but there are some programs I use where it really makes a big difference to have accurate material on the monitor and Braille display. And now for something completely different. `-) Does anyone know if there's a way to convert text files to MP3s? Maybe using a text-to-speech engine, but directing the output to a file rather than the sound card? There used to be a program like that for Windows, but I haven't seen one in Linux.

Thanks,
Terrence
