Aaron, if you don't mind wire (1 pair), you can make a PC readable
termperature sensor out of the Dallas DS18S20 that cost about 5 bucks US and
maybe a RS323 chip for another 8.

I have made a temperature sensor with one of the older model of these. While
not 'off the shelf' I simply soldered the pins together and encapsulated it
in epoxy.
If you do a search on this chip you will find many simple designs, in some
cases people will sell you a pre built board.
