Alan, it was actually the old Rod McLellan Company in the days of Van Ewart
which cloned Orchilla. Twyford have not done any work with Paphs to the best
of my knowledge, at least recently. Of course in the good old days when
Guinness Peat were funding things, all sorts of interesting experimentation
was being carried out including early Phalaenopsis cloning. As you say, some
basic F1 lines using tetraploid forms of parents will give you heaps of
uniform progeny even with Paphs. This is what Floricultura does. They have
300 or so plants of glaucophyllum and delenatii and they reciprocally cross
every flower every year to give them their Paph pot plant stock.
