Arachnorchis sp. aff. venusta (Kilsyth South Spider Orchid) is endemic to the area with 23 known individuals surviving and as such is eligible for listing as Critically Endangered. Surveys indicate an area of occurrence of 2 hectares (5 acres) and an area of occupancy at 1 hectare (2.5 acres). This information was collated by the nominator over a period of 10 years observation and is projected on the basis of residential development for the site and its geographic distribution is thus precarious for the survival of this beautiful species. In 2000 I donated a small sum of money to aid its conservation. The aim was to purchase land on which the species occurred but I am unsure how successful this imitative was.
