Iris,
Unfortunately, varietal (what we called them back then) names are neither listed
in the wildcat database nor in the Sander's of 1946 and thereafter. In
the 1905 (the first), 1915, 1916, and on to 1946, some varietal
names were included, but I could not find any with Walton Grange. L.
tenebrosa 'Walton Grange' was awarded an FCC by the RHS on August 8, 1893, so it
is a rather old clone. You may know that this is the yellow form of L.
tenebrosa and highly sought after by collectors and was most likely one of the
parents of almost legendary LC Luminosa Aurea. Other yellow forms of L.
tenebrosa are known.
As to the first AOS award to a Cattleya, it was to
C. schroederae 'Hercules' AM/AOS on April 29, 1932. This is the first recorded
Judging by the AOS and was also the first award. BC Springtide 'Stonehurst Var'
AM/AOS was also awarded the same day but listed after the C schroederae. Please
note that I am using the old spelling of what is now
C schroderae.
