Last month, the owner of a Brazilian nursery, at a local orchid show,
mentioned that Comparettia macroplectron (he was selling that species) was
occurring not only in Colombia but also in Ecuador and, possibly, in Brasil.
Since I had no information indicating that the species occurred outside of
Colombia, I started looking for information that would indicate otherwise.
I posted a query to the OGD. Thanks to all those who helped :
Dalton Holland Baptista (Brasil)
Csar Fernndez (Venezuela)
Martin Boekholt (Ecuador)
Sue Golan (US)

If there is no indication that the species also occurs in Brasil, there
are contradictory reports of a possible occurrence in Ecuador. Apparently,
the species has been seen by someone from Ecuagenera near Maldonado ;
joined by phone, someone at the same nursery said that the species occurs
in Colombia.
For his part, Pedro Ortiz Valdivieso (Colombia) indicated that a report,
in the literature, indicating that the species also occurs in Ecuador has
not been confirmed. That report referred to an occurrence near Pichincha
(Ecuador) ; see the following references :
Bockemuhl, L. / Senghas K.
1986 Comparettia macroplectron Rchb. f. & Triana 1878, Die
Orchidee, 37(5).
Bock, Irene
1986 Revision der Gattung Comparettia Poepp. & Endl., (Teil 3), Die
Orchidee, 37(6).

Should you find collection data indicating an occurrence of Comparettia
macroplectron in Ecuador or collect the species in Ecuador, I would be
pleased to be informed.
Best regards,
Viateur
