I just did a water test on water used to irrigate my plants. Two aspects of the results concern me. The pH is high (+- 9.0). And the LR total hardness is about 200 ppm. I'm trying to determine the reason for the poor root growth on my orchids. Most of the new root growth becomes necrotic. The plants are grown as epiphytes on bark. The leafy growth seems OK but the root growth is not. Do any of you experts out there feel that high pH and hardness might cause this? I need to find a way to fix this problem. Any advice would be appreciated. Sorry if this topic has ben covered before. I have not found a way to search the orchidguide archives by topic.
