A note of thanks to
Colin [Hamilton]
and
John [Varigos]
for their answers to a query about Vanda Miss Joaquim as Singapore's
national flower.

********
Interestingly enough, the hybrid (natural or not...), is of foreign origin
as mentioned in the quote provided by John :
" its ancestral roots are foreign, yet it is totally at home in Singapore"
Teoh Eng Soon, "A Joy Forever - Vanda Miss Joaquim: Singapore's National
Flower", 1982, p. 12.

In earlier times, Henry Ridley wrote in the Gardeners' Chronicle :
"A few years ago Miss Joaquim, a lady residing in Singapore, well-known for
her success as a horticulturist, succeeded in crossing Vanda Hookeriana
Rchb. f., and V. teres"
24 June 1893 p.740.

For his part, Arditti and colleagues, maintain that Vanda Miss Joaquim is a
natural hybrid :
sin Hew, Choy, Tim Wing Yam and Joseph Arditti,
"Biology of Vanda Miss Joaquim"
