If Vanda Miss Joaquim is an 'introduced natural hybrid' or a 'woman-made hybrid' obtained by crossing species from outside of the Singapore territory, one could wonder why it is accepted as Singapore's national flower.

A comparable situation occurred at the end of the XIXth century in the state of Minnesota (US) but was corrected at the beginning of the past century :

"After having mistakenly passed a resolution designating ... Cyprideum calceolus as the state flower in 1893, the Minnesota Legislature corrected its mistake in 1902 by passing a resolution naming ... Cypripedium reginae ... as Minnesota’s state flower. Minnesota Statute 1.142 was passed in 1967, designating the state flower in law.
