"Fordyce Orchids a victim of Livermore's rising land prices

MADGE, FRANK AND SUE FORDYCE ... have spent their lives in the orchid
business...

After more than 26 years as part of the Orchid Ranch co-op in Livermore,
Fordyce is closing, probably in February or March, making it another in the
long list of mom-and-pop shops that have closed in part because of the
abundance of mass produced orchids that are available cheaply...

The three co-op members Fordyce, Orchids Orinda and Tonkin Orchids
share nine 30-by-100-feet greenhouses, and all are closing out their
inventories during the next few months.
...
the increased traffic has ... led to higher land prices. Orchids Orinda,
the owner of the property, has agreed to sell the remaining 5 acres to a
housing developer"
