On holiday in Venice this past month, I happened upon a lovely little
Japanese arts and crafts shop, Sabbie e Nebbie ("Sand and Mist"
http://www.italiadiscovery.it/ve/sabbieenebbie/ ). On the counter,
with pride of place among exquisite handmade cards and fabrics, stood
the 2013 Origami Page-A-Day Calendar--open to Laura Kruskal's Stand-Up
Letterfold!

The proprietor, Maria Teresa Laghi, was astonished and delighted to
learn that I knew Laura and Margaret Van Sicklen.

Signora Laghi also brought out several beautifully folded modular
geometrics in red paper that a visitor from Japan? Korea? had made for
her. She saves them for display at Christmas time. Anyone know who
the mysterious red-paper folder was?

Happy 90th Birthday, Laura! I am so lucky to do origami with you
every month and see your latest creations!
