Great question! 1. We don’t know. We just can guess. 2. Of those traditional models, some very popular ones are the action models —those that “do something”. E.g. Airplane; paper boat; waterbomb. And of course the flying bird. 3. That leads to sharing. Kids play with the paper boat, the airplane, the waterbomb, together. 4. Easy to pass the “secret” from one person to another even without a diagram. Few steps. 5. The magic. People in the past loved doing and watching magic tricks.
