Sy Chen suggested I look for phone stands in origami in my search for origami
holders for medals, plates, and other flattish round objects, and also
mentioned he once also tried creating one.

First of all, it was a great pleasure and honor meeting you in person, and
thank you for trading a book with me. I love my new book!

There are definitely many more phone stands in origami than for medals and
plates! I have checked like maybe six designs. Unfortunately, I don't know the
creator's name of most of them. From the ones I saw, only Makoto Yamaguchi's
has a raised tip on each side, which would also work for objects such as
medals. It can lift the medal in two points, one on each side, while also
offering space for the bottom curved edge. All other phone stands I found offer
instead an edge at table height, which would allow a round object to rotate and
accidentally fall down.

Michel Grand pointed me to Easel by V'Ann Cornelius. What a cute simple model!

What I've noticed is that if the medal or plate is to heavy, it's curved bottom
can make the sides of the easel open up and the round object will fold back on
it. I feel I'm going the right direction with my model in process, and I'm
surprised I found more origami bookend models than stands for this type of
objects .

Sy, might you remember what didn't you like when you were trying to create one?
I am curious, but aside from that, your answer will probably help me in my
project.

Thank you once again.
