Thanks a lot Wim,

you got the problem by the hook..

I was using the wrong driver.
My application connects to the database with the following code...

Class.forName("COM.cloudscape.core.RmiJdbcDriver").newInstance();
Connection conn =
DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:cloudscape:rmi://ishpal2:55555/HelloWorldDB;autocommit=false");

And (now) my datasource in datatsources.xml is as...
        <data-source
                name="DefaultDS"
                class="com.evermind.sql.ConnectionDataSource"
                location="jdbc/DefaultDS"
                pooled-location="jdbc/DefaultPooledDS"
                xa-location="jdbc/xa/DefaultXADS"
                ejb-location="jdbc/DefaultEJBDS"

url="jdbc:rmi://localhost:55555/jdbc:cloudscape:HelloWorldDB;autocommit=false"
                connection-driver="RmiJdbc.RJDriver"
                inactivity-timeout="20"
                username=""
                password=""
                schema="database-schemas/cloudscape.xml"
        />

The drivers to connect to the database are different , but now I can
connect to the database.

Thanks (once again).
-Ishpal.
