You can use JNDI to access an LDAP server. See the documentation for JNDI:

   * http://java.sun.com/products/jndi/

Or specifically the LDAP service provider:

   * http://java.sun.com/products/jndi/#download

I assume this is what you are really looking for. And Orion fully supports the
JNDI standard.
