Resource Archive and J2EE Connectors?

I’m looking at the J2EE connectors spec, but I can only find about 3 articles on it all over the web.   If you haven’t heard of it, it is like a JDBC connection, but to an application instead of a database.  The application vendor provides the connector, just like the database vendor provides the database driver.   Has anyone else heard of this?  Thanks, Joe
