I imagine that is acceptable for that, however I would seriously look at the
unix mechanisms for starting orion as root then changing it to a diferent
uid. (nobody, orion, whatever) with lower permissions.

It looks like a permission problem. I've had similar problems with starting
Orion but because was trying to access to use port 80 that is restricted to
root (up to port 1024).

I've managed to solve the problem having root starting orion, using sudo
(so I don't have to be root) and I can even restart it from a web page.
Consider that I do not use Orion as a web server but just application
server.
