Subversion has a script that imports an entire CVSROOT (history and all)
into a SVN repository. I created an "oscar" repository and imported the
SF-provided OSCAR CVSROOT tarball as a test run.
Fun facts:
----------
- Size of OSCAR CVSROOT .bz2 tarball: 1,338,460,040 bytes
- Size of expanded .bz2 tarball: 1,381,718 Kbytes
- Size of SVN repository: 1,461,149 Kbytes
- Time required for the CVS->SVN import: 2 hours 18 minutes
- Developer SVN root: svn+ssh://svn.osl.iu.edu/l/svn/oscar
- Anonymous SVN root: svn://svn.osl.iu.edu/oscar
- Number of pseudo-atomic commits in the OSCAR CVS: 2,955
- First CVS commit: Aug 7, 2000, 4:04am GMT
- Number of CVS tags: 55
- Number of CVS branches: 8
- Size of a trunk SVN checkout: 324,340 Kbytes
- Time required for a trunk developer SVN checkout (to an IU machine, via
ssh): 5 minutes, 42 seconds
- Time required for a trunk anonymous SVN checkout (to an IU machine):
5 minutes, 47 seconds
- Size of entire SVN checkout (trunk, 55 tags, 8 branches):
12,947,332 Kbytes (yes, that's almost ~13 GB!)
- Time required for an entire SVN checkout: ...several hours...
