No Makefiles are ever generated from running autogen.sh. Makefiles are only generated when you run configure.

Lots of distros include m4 files that do not quote things properly, unfortunately. The URL cited explains the problem. But it should still just be a warning (and has nothing to do with OSCAR).

Is there a problem with automake/configure on RHEL4? I am getting
this error when I run autogen.sh from revision 3433.

Generating AC_CONFIG_FILES list...
aclocal
/usr/share/aclocal/ao.m4:9: warning: underquoted definition of XIPH_PATH_AO
  run info '(automake)Extending aclocal'
or see http://sources.redhat.com/automake/automake.html#Extending-aclocal
autoconf
automake -a --copy
configure.in: installing `dist/install-sh'
configure.in: installing `dist/missing'
configure.in:50: installing `dist/config.guess'
configure.in:50: installing `dist/config.sub'

But no top level make files are actualy made. This is a system I
upgraded from RHEL3 so I may have done something odd and need to
reinstall.
