Hi guys:

Some times it would be helpful to have a particular yum repository take
precedence over another one, for instance an example might be RPMs in
commom-rpms work for all known distroes expect for 1. Typically what we
need to do now is to copy the RPM(s) from common-rpms to all the other
distro-specific directories and then everything will work.

However, a simplier approach might be to retain common-rpms but have the
distro-specific one take precedence if it exists.

Take a look at the protectbase plugin:

http://wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumPlugins

I'm thinking that if we enable "protectbase" for distro-specific yum
repository, then this will work nicely...

I did a quick test with "torque" RPM in both rhel-4-x86_64 and
common-rpms with rhel-4-x86_64 being "protected", and it picked the RPM
there instead of from common-rpms.

Thoughts? Does apt provide a similar mechanism for choosing the
"priority" of a repository?

Cheers,

Bernard
