In my experience with CentOS, oscar doesn't "officially" support it. I have
historically always needed to add the word "centos" to the end of line 74 in
PackageSmart.pm before I could do my installation.

Try running

$OSCAR_HOME/scripts/distro-query -v

(maybe OSCAR_HOME needs to be set first)

It will print all it knows about the distro.

Is this an OS detection error, or a repo setup problem, or something
else? Looks ok to me...

His install logs are on the oscar-users thread, but I can repost the
rar file here if needed.

You can certainly try making a local repository from the install cds.
It should work with CentOS I think. Recent versions of Fedora were giving
people problems when they tried to make repos from the install cds. It is
certainly worth a try since you are having connection problems.

Ok thank you. I will check this.

I did not work with the local repository from CD at all.

Can you tell me why ?

It doesn't look like you are running scripts/start_over between
attempts. You might try doing that (or starting from a fresh OS).

You might also be having some network problems

http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/x86_64/CentOS/dhcp-3.0.5-13.el5.x86_64.rpm:
[Errno 4] Socket Error: timed out
        Trying other mirror.

That file exists, but for some reason your transfer failed. If you
have a bad connection, and have lots of disk space somewhere on your network,
you might try making a local mirror using a more error tolerant download
client. Rsync maybe?
